150 Horizon owners and their families enjoy immersion in Whitsunday wonders.
The second Global Horizon Yachts Owner Rendezvous was held at the breathtakingly beautiful Hamilton Island, in the Whitsundays, over four sunny days in late September.
The 2019 Rendezvous welcomed both new and long-time Horizon owners from all parts of the world for an extended weekend of fun, cruising, relaxation and friendship.
Fourteen Horizon yachts and 150 Horizon owners and guests from around the world gathered for the epic experience which included a packed schedule of activities that took best advantage of the exquisite location.
Guests met and mingled on the first afternoon with a “Docktail Party” on the Bommie Deck at the idyllically located Hamilton Island Yacht Club. The Horizon team presented guests with their Rendezvous Survival Kits, comprising towels, hats, sunscreen and various other supplies for their tropical getaway.
On the first full day, the fleet embarked on a group cruise to Whitehaven Beach, hailed as one of the world’s best, for a long table lunch on the sand for 150 people under a white marquee, surrounded by pristine beach, azure waters and refreshing tropical breeze.
As Horizon Motor Yachts Australia dealer, Mark Western recalled “It was an impressive sight – 13 Horizon motor yachts cruising in V-formation”.
“We had a chopper overhead taking photos, and once they were done, we raced to Whitehaven Beach. It was exhilarating!”
On Whitehaven Beach, the afternoon itinerary involved nothing more taxing than lounging, swimming and beach games.
The next day, guests were invited to get more creative and competitive. A costume-themed Buggy Parade and Tour at Catseye Beach resulted in garrulous laughter and some tremendous decorations, including a Crocodile Hunter buggy complete with khaki uniforms, greenery and life-size inflatable crocs.
That evening, with the backdrop of spectacular pink and orange sunset, guests enjoyed dinner, a welcoming speech from Horizon founder, John Lu, followed by live music and dancing to cap off a fantastic day.
Over the next few days, guests had the choice of fishing or snorkelling on the Reef, and golf on the sensational Dent Island course, which dazzles players with views from every aspect.
The final evening featured a private performance by the legendary Australian vocalist and musician, Daryl Braithwaite, who rose to fame in the 70s as the lead singer of the band ‘Sherbet’, and since the 80s, has enjoyed popularity for his chart-topping hits that have become much-loved Aussie anthems.
Needless to say, guests were dazzled by Daryl and danced the night away under the stars, toasting another successful Horizon Rendezvous they wouldn’t have missed for the world.
Mark Western explained the significance of the Rendezvous to the company saying, “it’s more than brand building, it’s the opportunity to get closer to our owners and hear from them what’s important to their boating lifestyle”.
“Horizon owners are business owners, most of them self-made and they’re owner-operators of their vessels. They take a very hands-on approach to designing their Horizon and we listen when they have feedback.
“For owners, the Rendezvous is a great event for meeting other owners and hearing their inspiring stories from cruising all over the world. For us, our owners are a great source of referrals as well, which has led to healthy organic growth over the years.”
Rebecca and Scott Taylor travelled from the Gold Coast with a group of friends (including former Horizon Australia boss, Russell Wright) for their first rendezvous as owners of 94ft Horizon, “Black Legion”.
Unsure what to anticipate ahead of the four-day sojourn in the Whitsundays, the couple and their seven friends headed north with open minds.
“Aside from the amazing scenery and perfect weather, we were impressed with the exceptional events the Horizon team organised,” said Rebecca.
“It was an honour to meet the various members of the international Horizon team, who are world-class in their care and commitment to clients. In our personal experience, this is not only an impressive quality, but it’s also unique.”
Newcomers to the Horizon family, but seasoned boat owners, the Taylors were thrilled with the opportunity to enjoy their Horizon among other devotees of the brand.
“We have loved the on-water lifestyle for more than 20 years and it’s only amplified our experience and enjoyment owning a Horizon. Our boat is very personal to us in its style and functionality with every feature enhancing the comfort and performance while in transit or docked.”
Witnessing the sheer number of Horizon motor yachts in one place was one of the memorable experiences, as were the numerous activities available over the Rendezvous.
“There was something for all ages and interests,” Rebecca noted. “The island locations offer a great range of restaurants and retail, reef access and incredible fishing. We loved being able to dive, snorkel, fish, paddle board, kayak and hike – all activities we enjoy regularly, in the one location.
“We enjoyed the most delicious and beautifully-presented food, breathtaking venues that were decorated to perfection, fun, adventure, a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends and memories that will be cherished.”
The Rendezvous attracted owners from around the globe, sharing insight into their own cruising adventures, and senior management from the Taiwan headquarters.
“As Horizon owners we feel privileged and respected by the company,” said Rebecca. “The interaction with the global and local team was absolutely the icing on the cake for us as new members to Horizon and reaffirmed our choice to buy the brand.
“We had friends with us that are potentially in the market for a new boat and I am confident that the event has been a positive influence in their future decision.”

Liz and Shane Leadbetter
Liz and Shane Leadbetter, owners of the Horizon E73 “Justified”, travelled to Hamilton Island with their daughter Emily and her fiancé Ben.
“The Horizon Rendezvous exceeded my expectations. I knew it would be good, but it was even better than we’d imagined! Horizon Motor Yachts spared no expense and gave us every opportunity to enjoy this fabulous location.
“There are too many highlights to name them all,” she continued. “The fabulous cocktails and dinner party on the deck at the Yacht Club, the golf buggy dress-up parade which was a great way to break the ice with people we didn’t know, meeting new people from all over the world, the snorkelling trip out to Bait Reef, the long table lunch on Whitehaven Beach – the venue and food were sublime!
“Then it was topped off with the Daryl Braithwaite private concert by the pool. Honestly, it was magic!”
The Whitsundays as a destination is a renowned boaties’ paradise, and Liz and Shane were impressed with the diverse range of activities at their fingertips.
“It was a superb location for this event,” she said. “No matter what the wind direction, there is always somewhere sheltered to anchor. There are so many fabulous adventures both on and under the water: crystal clear waters, beautiful islands to explore with walks and hikes that lead to spectacular views and gorgeous coves.
“Despite pressures on the reef, there is still an underwater paradise to explore, snorkel and dive amongst lovely coral and healthy marine life, particularly at the outer reefs.
“And when you feel like a visit to civilization, there is always Hamilton Island with its restaurants, shops to stock up on supplies, refuel or explore the 20km of hiking trails with magnificent views that lead to gorgeous beaches.”
Gaining a coterie of new friends and strengthening ties with friends they’ve made through Horizon ownership; Liz said the value of the Rendezvous can’t be underestimated.
“We have made some wonderful new friendships and have had visitors already tie up at home (on the Sunshine Coast) for a few nights on their way back from Hamo. We are looking forward to more boating together!”
Liz delivered a heartfelt speech on the final night to express owners’ collective gratitude for the effort that went into organising such an epic event.
“We were so grateful to John Lu for providing this opportunity for all Horizon owners, friends, family and guests to get together to celebrate the joys and benefits of Horizon moor yacht ownership.
“Mark Western and his team from Horizon Motor Yachts Australia certainly turned it on in so many wonderful ways and it was so much fun!
“We met so many wonderful people and have created some life-time memories.”
