Horizon Yacht is the original company was co-founded by John Lu, Mr. Gong Shan Chiai, and Mr. Cheng Shun Hui in 1987 and is the headquarters for the Horizon Group. Through the years, Horizon has grown to encompass 463,000 square feet and employ 300 staff and craftsmen focused on building Horizon yachts from 60 to 130 feet (18-40M) in length. The Horizon models include luxury motoryachts, power catamarans, explorers, fast displacement motoryachts and custom megayachts built to DNV (Det Norske Veritas), BV (Bureau Veritas) or Lloyd’s Register class.
Certified for meeting ISO 9001 standards through DNV, the Horizon shipyard houses fundamental yacht manufacturing equipment and systems as well as two test tanks and a water shed for yachts under 130-foot (36M). This facility also houses our 5-axis router and CNC milling department, which ensure the best and most accurate molds possible. The 5-axis router runs and works at a speed of 1,800 inches per minute; the router is able to stop at any precise position within a 0.01 tolerance, creating forms that are almost perfectly symmetrical and remarkably consistent.
Via a comprehensive E-system, Horizon can efficiently manage and control the yacht construction progress as well as inventory, administration and a detailed record of customer service. Through technology-based management, the shipyard can effectively integrate a variety of resources to efficiently build premier luxury yachts with a high level of customer service.
The main Horizon facility is also home to numerous internal departments such as the mechanical engineering development center, which staffs 20 engineers with master’s degrees and 90 full-time engineers. Also on site is the company’s interior design center, business administration and human resources; global marketing center; IT and systems departments and management offices..
Founded in 2000, Atech Composites produces the hull, decks and superstructure of every Horizon yacht. Experts in advanced composites technology, Atech is also the only large-scale FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastics) component manufacturer and total solution provider in Asia, and works across multiple industries from marine to aviation, national defense, transportation and more.
As a subsidiary of the Horizon Group, Atech has remained at the forefront of advanced resin infusion molding technology for two decades. In the build of Horizon yacht hulls, Atech was the first licensee in Asia to utilize TPI Composites’ patented SCRIMP (Seemann’s Composites Resin Infusion Molding Process) vacuum infusion process, a construction method developed by the U.S. Navy as a means to increase a vessel’s strength and durability without adding weight or affecting performance.
In 2004, Atech developed an improved 3D resin infusion technology that facilitated resin flow up and down internal stiffeners, enabling the efficient build of far larger structures than previously possible. By 2020, Atech had developed and patented a revolutionary 6D resin infusion technology, which utilizes 3D structure fiber cloth with the 3D vacuum infusion process to guarantee even resin distribution throughout the laminate for lighter and stronger hulls.
Working across industries and investing in continuous R&D and innovation for two decades, Atech has become the only total solution provider for large-scale composite component manufacturing in Asia. Atech’s composite products range from marine to aviation, national defense, transportation, infrastructure and offshore wind energy industries.
Atech is the only composite shipyard in Asia to have introduced aerospace-grade Non-Destructive Test and profile measurement technology into its build processes, and as such, Horizon is the only luxury yacht builder to use aerospace-grade technology in the testing of every FRP component, which further improves the precision and accuracy of every Horizon yacht mold.
Since its establishment in 2001, Vision Yachts has expanded its operation from 45 employees to 250, and increased its build capacity to three times the original scale. This shipyard is designed specifically to build Horizon yachts from 52 to 80 feet (17-24M) in length, which includes Horizon’s luxury motoryacht, power catamaran, explorer and sport yacht models.
The ISO9001-certified facility encompasses 161,460 square feet with testing areas including two tank tests and has the capacity to accommodate 15 yachts under construction simultaneously in individual bays.
Vision Yachts is led by Austin Lin, a master interior designer and craftsman. Collaboration between Vision’s own Interior Design Center and well-known international designers helps Lin and his team remain competitive in the field of interior design. Through the combination of advanced facilities, experienced craftsmen and technical teams, and a comprehensive E-management system, the shipyard can produce high quality yachts that exceed owners’ expectations.
Vision Yachts not only strives for innovation in interior design, lighting design and efficient management, but also in growing product portfolios that meet the needs and styles of a variety of clientele. In recent years, Vision Yachts has applied green technology to new models, demonstrating Horizon’s commitment to the environment and providing more options for eco-conscious cruisers.
Founded in 2005, Premier Yacht was originally dedicated to the construction of custom megayachts of 100 feet (30M) and above, but a new business strategy in 2013 changed the focus of the facility from new construction to refit and repair. The Premier shipyard now focuses on yacht maintenance and repair and refit of 100-foot plus (30M ) yachts.
Premier’s 258,330sqft facility can simultaneously accommodate six yachts of 120 feet (40M) and above under cover. The yard also owns 656 feet (200M) of waterfront property as well as an automatic float on/off launch barge with a 500-ton lifting capacity for yachts which L.O.A less than 200 feet (60M), beam 45 feet (13.4M), gives Premier a logistical advantage for sea trials, commissioning, and loading completed yachts to be delivered on board container/bulk ships. Thanks to its ideal geographical location on Kaohsiung Harbor, the Premier shipyard has also been designated as the delivery center for Horizon yachts.
With 180 employees that include experienced naval architects, marine engineers and a technical team, the Premier shipyard is certified with OHSAS 18001 – the Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series for health and safety management systems – that ensures safer working environments for employees; Horizon Group was the first yacht builder to be endorsed with this certification in Asia.
The Horizon Group recently developed a world class luxury yacht marina that offers a full range of marine and yachting lifestyle services in Taiwan. Located in the heart of downtown Kaohsiung, Horizon City Marina can accommodate 40 yachts ranging in size from 40ft (12M) to 200ft (60M). The floating dock design features hidden sea anchors that stabilize the dock without the need for dock pilings; easy-to-access slips with convenient finger piers; and multifunction dock pedastals with various power supplies and fresh water connections. Horizon City Marina is convenient to Kaohsiung’s main transportation lines, including a new waterfront light rail transit system, as well as surrounding hotels, restaurants, and shopping centers. For clients who wish to explore Taiwan’s coast line, Horizon’s Yacht Management and Concierge Service will provide mapping and provisioning for cruising trips as well as help secure dockage.
